Concept film: ‘The Book of Water’ (working title)

We are in the early stages of R&D of a work exploring water’s innate sense of equilibrium. Water flows through different material states and dynamically interacts with different bodies and forces, in a perpetual balancing act. Moving through all living beings, it translates and transcribes a never-ending exchange: holding and sharing communal, more-than-human knowledge. We imagine creating a hybrid work where distinctions between human bodies and bodies of water are blurred, through layering of the physical and projected moving / generative image. R&D will explore projecting onto and moving with multiple layered fabric screens to create a temporary performance / installation work where filmed material is cycled through loops of moving bodies and projection onto bodies / surfaces referencing the cycling of water through all living things. The aim is that the final piece makes visible the journey of water as it passes through and is itself transformed by, all living beings, taking small meanings and materialities from the collective experience with it. Water becomes the ultimate store of memory and meaning; absorbing and transforming collective knowledge, beyond material, print, and bodies. In a time of climate change and systematic collapse we need narratives of connection and hope that re-connect us on a deeper level with this most precious of resources.
