Domhnain

Domhnain means ‘land’ in Celtic. This meditation on interconnection invites audiences to consider our role as inhabitants and stewards of delicate ecosystems, where every species exists in mutual dependence. Change one part, and you affect the whole.

The piece was created in response to the hidden ecology of Clennon Gorge Nature Reserve with its underground caves, streams, and ancient woodland, that shelter some of the UK’s most endangered species, including greater and lesser horseshoe bats. Domhnain takes a collective perspective on place, where ‘memory’ and ancient ‘knowingness’ is shared across species and generations.

Domhnain is a site-adaptable multimedia installation available from autumn 2025 for cultural and conservation venues with indoor spaces for exhibitions. The work was first created for Paignton Zoo where NooN worked closely with Wild Planet Trust to learn about the site, collecting images, field recordings and fragments of text about the site. The work was installed in Paignton Zoo throughout August 2025 for over 40,000 visitors.
